During the study of this subject, the student will be able:

- to acquire knowledge that translation is a science and an art, the role of the translator as an intercultural mediator, the history of translation studies and their main periods, linguistics - translation - extralinguistic;

- to thoroughly understand grammatical, lexical, semantic, stylistic and phraseological features of translation from English to Uzbek and from Uzbek to English;

- to have information about the specific characteristics of translation types and their scope of use;

- to have an idea about the features of translation of artistic, political-social, historical and scientific texts and the skills of collecting necessary information from the Internet and translation skills based on a scientific approach.

- He studies the history of the English language and its four major periods and significant linguistic events that occurred in them;

- They get acquainted with the differences in the phonetics, morphology, syntax and lexis of ancient, middle, modern and modern English;

- Identifying the main isomorphic and allomorphic signs characteristic of the studied languages and classifying them accordingly;

- Deduction of isomorphic regularities and allomorphic units from these common or different features, respectively, in contrasted languages;

- Implementation of a truly scientific classification of the existing languages of the world based on the received practical information;

During the study of this subject, the students will be able to:

-          Understand the important information and facts in the given audio recordings, being able to distinguish the main ideas and auxiliary details in the audio text;

-          Introduce the given topic in the oral speech in the right way, be able to give positive and negative opinions on the topic, and have the skills to pronounce words correctly in one's speech;

-          Have knowledge of listening comprehension techniques and methods and be able to use these methods in listening comprehension of texts;

Be able to explain general thoughts in their own words without repeating the information they heard.

-          Independently write texts and statements based on a logical sequence on the given topics;

-          Critically express one's opinion regarding given scientific texts and essays;

-          Demonstrate effective strategies as readers and writers by reflecting on their reading and writing processes.

- Learns English vowels and consonants, accent, its types, correct pronunciation standards.

- Learns the origin, structure and essence of language.

- Learns language not as a collection of individual facts and words, but as a whole system, all parts of which are interconnected and interrelated.

- Considers the development of language in relation to the development of society

- He studies the issue of the emergence and development of writing.

- Develops learning methods, that is, can use methods such as comparative-historical, descriptive, comparative, quantitative (based on quantitative, mathematical statistics).

- Considers the connection of linguistics with other sciences (literature, history, logic, psychology, mathematics).

-          literary movements over the periods; introductin to the selected works representing significant trends in American literature since the end of World War II;

-          examine a selection of contemporary American fiction in historic, aesthetic, and social contexts; explore the reflection of migration, human rights, and national voices in literature through selected works;

-          analyse literature and postmodern culture, contemporary American literary works and how aesthetic style may be influenced by social and historical conditions; critically discuss the issues of race, class, and gender that affected literature;

-          classify different periods of American literature and analyse the literary works by theme and context.

-          a general overview of the major development of British literature in XX and XXI starting with Victorian era;

-          an introduction to the literature in the Victorian era, victorian writers, close look at their selected works;

-          skills to analyse major literary movements over the periods and selected works representing significant trends in British literature;

-          Edwardian period and prominent writers of the era, fine selection of the writers and literary analysis skills on them;

-          Close-up look to the literature before and during World War II, fictional, contextual and social analysis of the representing works;

-          critical analysis skills on the works of"existentialism" in the modern period of British literature;

-          critical analysis skills on the works of “modernism” in English literature

German is taught as a second language for Foreign Language and Literature: English majors, and as a German language for specific purposes for other majors. When German is taught as a foreign language for other specialties, it is determined as a priority to develop the skills of students to master German language materials and use them effectively in their specialties. It is useful for students majoring in Foreign Language and literature: English students to create an idea of the stages of its development in the process of learning the German language, which belongs to the Germanic language family.
